Born in 1960 in Rustenburg, Gauteng, Walter Oltmann’s main area of focus is sculpture, and more particularly in fabricating woven wire forms. He completed his BA Fine Arts degree at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg in 1981 and his MA Fine Arts degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1985.

Walter has had numerous solo exhibitions with the Goodman Gallery, and has created several large-scale commissions for venues such as the Zeitz Sculpture Garden in Segera, Kenya. Today, Walter lives and works in Johannesburg and teaches part-time in the Fine Arts division at Wits University.

Walter has had a long connection with the Christian family. Studying under Malcolm whilst at Wits and was a babysitter for Terence and Sally when they were little. So it was only natural that Walter be a part of the very first Artists Range for Caversham Textiles.
